GENERAL PURPOSE: Under general direction, provide professional transportation planning with both project management and technical responsibilities for transportation projects, plans, programs and initiatives for the City of New Braunfels.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Conducts transportation planning studies including coordinating with federal, state, and local agencies, and multiple city divisions and departments as needed.
Provides technical planning services to achieve community transportation goals outlined in the city’s comprehensive plan and other adopted plans.
Prepares plans for the development of an efficient, integrated, and balanced transportation network including a variety of modes of transportation such as transit, automobile, freight, walking and biking.
Prepares special studies and analysis for transportation planning, transportation modeling, traffic safety, transit planning and air quality planning.
Reviews and coordinates accessibility requirements including compliance with Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and the city’s ADA Transition Plan.
Assists in coordination of travel demand forecasting and other planning activities with the Alamo Area Metropolitan Planning Organization (AAMPO), regional agencies, and consultants, including preparation of data and interpretation of results.
Assists other departments and outside agencies in the preparation of proposals and grant applications, including preparing planning documents, memos, reports, presentations, and other documentation for state and federal transportation funding.
Prepares and recommends code amendments and coordinates review and adoption process, ensuring compliance with local ordinances, city charter, state statutes and Federal law.
Supports the Roadway Impact Fee program including review of applications for credit agreements, accounting of credits and annual reporting.
Prepares written reports and makes presentations at public meetings, and to boards, commissions and City Council; assures accuracy of information.
Responds to department requests for information, as well as from the general public.
Develops maps and other graphic presentations to illustrate land use plans and planning concepts; assists in maintaining records, files and maps with GIS.
Generates and interprets data from traffic modeling software, GIS or associated databases.
Keeps current with trends, developments and legislation in transportation planning.
Performs other duties and fulfills responsibilities as assigned or required.
Education and Experience:
A Bachelor’s Degree in city and regional planning or a related field such as landscape architecture, urban design, public administration, geography, or urban studies; AND three (3) years increasingly responsible experience in transportation planning; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience. Master’s Degree is preferred.
Required Licenses or Certifications:
Must possess a valid Texas Driver’s License.
American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP) Certification and/or Professional Transportation Planner (PTP) Certification is preferred.
