This is an exciting opportunity to be part of a professional team of architects, engineers and construction professionals focused on Multifamily, Senior, and Special Needs rental affordable housing projects throughout the State. The Division of Technical Services works in concert with other divisions to ensure that projects financed by the Agency are designed to be safe and comfortable and follow the Agency’s underwriting and design guidelines. The Division also reviews projects for cost effectiveness and energy efficiency.
NJHMFA, through its Low-Income Housing Tax Credit program, champions energy efficiency and sustainability best practices and standards, as well as energy benchmarking of residential units and common areas within multifamily projects.
Under the direction of the Managing Architect, the engineer will review the civil, structural, and mechanical drawings for projects receiving Agency financing; consult and do research related to energy efficiency and sustainability best practices; evaluate the site and provide general engineering guidance and knowledge related to housing and municipal land use practices. The engineer will be required to consult on various types of housing projects, including new construction, high rise, mid-rise, townhome style units, group homes, adaptive and historic reuse, and preservation of existing multifamily housing complexes; perform related duties as required.
Four (4) year college degree in a field of Engineering; five (5) years of relevant experience; or a combination of both education and experience which meet the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
Performance as a specialist for planning, coordinating and performing a recognized administrative function. Will work within a group of staff professionals. Work is assigned in terms of broad, general objectives. Completed work is reviewed only to ensure attainment of objectives and compliance with HMFA policies and procedures.
Must be able to access all active construction sites; must be able to walk, climb stairs and ladders.
General office environment; some travel is required to conduct site inspections.
Certificates & Licenses Required
N. J. Licensed Professional Engineer.
LEED Certification a plus.
CME certification a plus.
A valid driver's license in the State in which the person resides is required if the operation of a vehicle, rather than employee mobility, is necessary to perform the essential duties of the position.
