The Maryland Department of Transportation Motor Vehicle Administration (MDOT MVA) is seeking a dynamic progressive leader with focus on delivering premier customer service with innovative ideas and solutions.
This position functions as MVA's Chief Engineer and advises the Administrator and MVA Executive team on all matters, issues and responsibilities associated with design and construction of new MVA facilities, renovations and modifications to existing facilities, systems preservation, environmental compliance and maintenance of all MVA facilities across the State. This includes the MVA's Glen Burnie Headquarters and O.I.R. Buildings, full service and express offices and VEIP stations. This position is also responsible for the supervision of Chief - Facilities Management, Engineers, Architect, Construction Managers and Manager - Office of Environmental Management. This position serves at the pleasure and reports to the Deputy Administrator of Support Services.
Key Responsibilities: Combine your proven leadership and Facilities Engineering technical expertise to plan, design, and construct facility renewal and expansion projects, enhance existing (or new) capital projects including short- and long-range planning initiatives, preventative and corrective maintenance, energy management and compliance, perform engineering studies and assessment of facility improvement, and ADA compliance.
The ideal candidate will have:
a proven track record of successful Facilities Engineering design and construction leadership experience as demonstrated by articulated results and accomplishments.
strong technical knowledge of the following: mechanical, electrical, plumbing, HVAC, structural, safety systems, architectural, energy management, ADA compliance, and LEED;
strong project management experience
exceptional customer service, relationship building and communication skills;
strong Leadership skills with a focus on staff development and team building;
Registered Architect License (RA) or Professional Engineer License (PE) a required.
Education: A Bachelor's degree in engineering or environmental science.
Experience: A minimum of eight (8) years of engineering experience is required. Candidates must demonstrate progressively increased responsibility including project management and management of other licensed engineers. A minimum of four (4) years of experience must have directly involved supervision of the projects performed by licensed, professional engineers or architects.
NOTES: 1. Additional experience in professional engineering or a related technical field may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the required education.
2. Additional graduate level education at an accredited college or university may be substituted for the required general experience at the rate of 30 semester credit hours for one year of the required general experience.
3. U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as defined under the Preferred Qualifications may be substituted for the required education and experience on a year-for-year basis.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Employees may be subject to emergency call 24 hours a day and may be required to maintain a reliable communication link (telephone or pager) for the purpose of emergency call back requirements.
Employees must be available for duty at such hours, day or night, as may be required in order to maintain continuous operation of a facility.
