Director of Egg Industry Center (Associate or Full Professor or Adjunct Associate Professor/Adjunct Full Professor) Department of Animal Science
The College of Agriculture and Life Sciences at Iowa State University invites applications for the position of Director of the Egg Industry Center at the rank of tenured associate professor or professor or non-tenured adjunct associate professor or professor for those applicants in industry that meet the qualifications for a term faculty position. The tenure home department will be in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences, either in the Department of Agricultural and Biosystems Engineering or the Animal Science Department. The position is defined as 40% administration, 10% service and 50% research and serves at the pleasure of the dean.
This individual will serve as Director of the Egg Industry Center. National in scope, the center is focused on advancing the U.S. egg industry by adding value through providing scientific information and data analysis to egg producers, processors, their associations, allied industry and today's data-minded consumers. The center serves as a credible national and international voice for scientific information related to commercial egg production. Center activities include conducting research, providing a clearing house for historical and current egg-related research, analyzing and reporting data important to the industry, hosting an annual Issues Forum, providing interviews for various media channels, and the full spectrum of relationships needed to fulfill all these activities. Additionally, an annual Egg Industry Center Grant Program funds various institutions nationwide to execute egg-related research. Research conducted at the center itself is focused on providing timely solutions to real industry challenges though lab-scale and commercial-scale projects, and the use of the new poultry research and teaching farm located at Iowa State.
The Director will be responsible for all aspects of the center's national and international presence including research, outreach and related center development goals. The Director is responsible for building capacity with industry, peers at other universities, state and local governmental organizations, university stakeholders and staff, and other interested stakeholders. The Director will work closely with an Advisory Board. Other duties include communication with the US poultry industry, as well as the public, funding of center-conducted research programs, budget management and management of the grant award program.
Required Education and Experience For consideration at the adjunct associate or adjunct full professor rank: a master's degree in ag engineering, poultry science or animal science or a DVM and MS degree.
For consideration at the associate or full professor rank: PhD in Ag Engineering, Poultry Science, Animal Science or related field or DVM with MS degree. Additionally, candidates must also have a record of scholarship achievement commensurate with the department, college, and university's standards for appointment to the rank of associate or full professor with tenure.
Preferred Education and Experience
Demonstrated strong written communication skills
Demonstrated experience fundraising with external stakeholders
Demonstrated familiarity with the U.S. poultry industry
Demonstrated success in attracting competitive federal grants and contracts
Experience developing, coordinating and conducting research programs
Experience interacting effectively with the public/media on policy issues
Experience interacting with advisory groups, commodity organizations, and industry
Demonstrated success in supervising staff and mentoring and managing a budget
Demonstrated familiarity with managing educational workshops and programs

Additional Information The University is in the process of implementing a policy change to allow academic departments to offer rank within a “Professor of Practice” track. The impending change is expected to be completed by Fall 2019. Any faculty member hired as Term Faculty through this posting may be assigned the new title/rank upon the employment start date (and after the initial offer), commensurate with qualifications required for the rank as of August 2019.
Director appointment is five years from start date. Director serves at the pleasure of the dean of CALS.
This position's faculty rank must be within the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences.
